Vision Zero
Tens of thousands of people — our friends and family, colleagues and neighbors — are killed or seriously injured in traffic collisions that could, and should, be prevented each year. We know we can do more to prevent this suffering, and we believe that all of us — whether driving, walking, bicycling, using a wheelchair, or riding transit — have a right to safe mobility.
The City of Urbana has joined in the effort to make our streets safer by approving a Vision Zero resolution. The Urbana Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission has been charged with creating an Vision Zero Action Plan over the next year.
What is Vision Zero?
Vision Zero is a strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. We know we can reduce roadway deaths because we have done it locally on the University of Illinois Campus in Urbana-Champaign.

The Urbana Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC), along with community members, are asking residents share their concerns about street safety in our community. The information will be used to inform our Vision Zero Plan. Our goal to provide people with space for safe, healthy outdoor transportation. You can help by taking a short survey!
Safe Routes to School & Vision Zero
It is our vision that students be able to walk, bike, and roll to and from school safely and enjoyably. Vision Zero is key to accomplishing that goal. Families need to feel that their students can safely make their trips without undue danger. To accomplish this we invite you to help us identify those places that present obstacles to your student(s) being able to safely walk or roll to school using the map above. We are also providing a link to a "Walkability Checklist" you may use and email to us once completed to help us further in accomplishing our goal. You can send completed checklist to [email protected]
